A Length of Shibori Dyed Cotton: Slight Tinting of White Areas

$55.00 USD

mid twentieth century
55 1/2" x 13 1/2", 120 cm x 141 cm

This is a length of stitched shibori cotton that has been dyed in indigo, the cotton is still creased from the shibori dyeing process as well as bearing creases from its former life as a yukata. This piece was taken from a yukata which is an unlined, casual kimono.

The pattern is that of interconnected maple leaves, the design drawn in such a way as to suggest movement of the leaves or to give the impression that they are falling.

Please note that the "white" areas of the cloth are slightly tinted with a pale blue tone--somehow there was some stray indigo that bled in slightly mottled form into what was meant to be undyed white cotton. This detail is difficult to show in photography.

Nonetheless this is an impressive length of shibori dyeing with a highly attractive pattern.
