A Length of Shibori Dyed Cotton: Interlocking Blipped Hexagons #2
early to mid twentieth century
25" x 13 1/4", 63.5 cm x 33.5 cm
This is a length of indigo dyed cotton shibori that was produced in Arimatsu, one of the towns in Aichi prefecture that was a leading producer and innovator in the production of shibori.
The pattern shows a repeat pattern of stitched shibori blips that are arranged in such a wa that they create a design of hexagons each with a small six pointed flower in the center. The hexagon is a design shorthand for tortoiseshell and the tortoiseshell motif is a conveyance for a wish for a long life.
The stitched pattern is dyed onto a length of commercially loomed, fairly lightweight cotton and is in good, used condition.
Wonderful to look at!
