A Length of Shibori Dyed Cotton: Blue on White Pattern #4

$30.00 USD

early to mid twentieth century
28" x 13", 71 cm x 33 cm

This is a length of indigo dyed cotton shibori that was produced in Arimatsu, one of the towns in Aichi prefecture that was a leading producer and innovator in the production of shibori.

The pattern shows boldly placed cross images that are starkly set on a white background. On the white background we see faint, pink cross images that are made of small dots. More than likely these were guides for further tied shibori patterns that for whatever reason, were not tied onto this length of cloth.

The stitched and tie dyed pattern is dyed onto a length of commercially loomed, fairly lightweight cotton and is in slightly stained, used condition. Please see an image of the stain to the bottom, center of the cloth, shown here.

Wonderful to look at!
