A Length of Shibori Dyed Cotton: Blue on White Pattern #3
early to mid twentieth century
24 1/2" x 12 3/4", 62 cm x 32.5 cm
This is a length of indigo dyed cotton shibori that was produced in Arimatsu, one of the towns in Aichi prefecture that was a leading producer and innovator in the production of shibori.
The pattern shows dark, indigo dyed, over sized Chinese bellflowers that are touching and interconnected in such a way as to form a loosely structured, graphic pattern
The stitched and tie dyed pattern is dyed onto a length of commercially loomed, fairly lightweight cotton and is in good, used condition. Please note the discoloration to a small area of the cloth at the bottom, center, shown in a detail photo here.
Wonderful to look at!
