A Length of Shibori Dyed Cotton: Flowering Flowers
early to mid twentieth century
26 1/2" x 13", 67 cm x 33 cm
This is a length of indigo dyed cotton shibori that was produced in Arimatsu, one of the towns in Aichi prefecture that was a leading producer and innovator in the production of shibori.
The pattern shows a design of two stylized chrysanthemums, each of which is magnified in an abstractly "exploding" way. The background is a network of intersecting curved lines. Please note the area of faint foxing a the top, center of the piece.
The shibori is dyed onto a length of commercially loomed, fairly lightweight cotton and is in good, used condition.
Wonderful to look at!
