A Length of Shibori and Katazome Dyed Cotton: Two Processes
$55.00 USD
early to mid twentieth century
24 1/2" x 12 1/2", 62 cm x 31.5 cm
This is a length of indigo dyed cotton shibori that has been dyed in the arashi method and also stenciled with an all over fairly large repeat of cherry blossoms, butterflies, faux shibori and ivy leaves.
The strong diagonals of the arashi shibori still show creases or pleating from the method used to create this "storm" or shibori. The ivy pattern is still crisp, dark and bold.
This length was taken from a han juban or a half under kimono so there are ingrained creases near the selvedge edges.
A great little piece of old shibori showing two processes.
