A Length of Rustic Patched Cotton: Indigo Dyed Hand Spun Heavy Cloth

$85.00 USD

late nineteenth century
69" x 13 1/2", 175.25 cm x 34 cm

This is a rough and tough length of old cotton cloth that is woven from beautifully wrought hand spun yarns which were hand woven into the plaid cloth we see here.

The cloth is a deep blue-colored plaid which has been worn hard and bears the evidence of years of wear by it surface abrasion, its uneven light fading and its strong patching.

The cloth is heavy in weight and is boldly patched. It is rustic in its appearance and because of this has an allure.

The length definitely shows good age, well over a hundred years, and with this it prompts so many questions: where was it made? Who made it? How long was it used?

These are the questions which create mystique around these old textiles and the intrigue related to this contains some kind of magic.
