A Length of Rustic Hemp Cloth: Three Cotton Patches

$85.00 USD

ca. early to mid twentieth century
58" x 11 1/4", 147 cm x 33 cm

This is a rustic length of coarse hemp cloth.  It is woven from thick and gnarled plied yarn, yet it is quite soft to the touch.

It is mended, as can be seen by the three cotton patches that are hand sewn to the length of hemp, in almost even spacing from top to bottom.

Most likely this piece of hemp cloth was taken from a country futon.

Its undyed color, its raw texture and its three cotton patches make this a very attractive country textile, especially if you like asa or the bast fiber cloth of old Japan.

Recommended.
