A Length of Pieced Translucent Kimono Fabric: Pojagi-like

$55.00 USD

early twentieth century
90" x 12 1/4", 228.5 cm x 31 cm

This is a very long length of hand pieced, hand sewn, translucent cotton called ro: it is an open weave that is usually seen on summer kimono.

The function of this long piece of hand stitched ro fragments is unknown but what is here is something enigmatic and beautiful. The patched area, the seams--especially the diagonal one that resembles Korean pojagi--make for a visually intriguing.

The color is a dark brown and as you can see the widths in the various sections of the length vary.

Hanging the piece backlit is the best way to display this piece which, of course, could be cut and reconfigured at will.
