A Length of Patched Plaid Cotton: Layers

$85.00 USD

early twentieth century
58" x 13 1/2", 80 cm x 32.5 cm

The base cloth of this patched panel is of muted and dark, large-scale plaid cotton. It is hand woven from hand spun cotton yarns.

There is a slight bow to the piece due, no doubt, to its many years of service. The patches that stud the surface are attractive, especially the ones on the top, right which are layered.

The visual contract between the base cloth with its large scale pattern and the patches which show a smaller one is part of the delight in viewing this old length of cotton.

This is a humble beauty from old Japan with so much to appreciate.
