A Length of Patched Indigo Dyed Cotton: Two Layers Stitched Together

$95.00 USD

early twentieth century
72" x 13 1/4", 183 cm x 33.5 cm

This is a good-sized length of old boro cloth that is composed of two layers that have been sashiko stitched together.

The beautifully textured indigo dyed cotton base cloth that is shown here is exactly what you would want to see in old, folk textiles from Japan, that is it is of hand spun, hand woven cotton yarns.

The surface shows about three patches which happen to be positioned in a unintentionally artful manner, just charming to look at.

The overall look of this boro panel is quiet and complex.

It is a beautiful piece with good age and, as said above, is made of two layers which gives this length some weight and body.

A quiet beauty.
