A Length of Patched and Faded Katazome Cotton: Irises or Sedge
early twentieth century
64" x 12 1/4", 162.5 cm x 31 cm
This is a beautifully faded length of indigo dyed katazome cotton showing an unusual and interesting repeat pattern of stylized iris or sedge.
There are five applied patches to the length--two at the top, one at the bottom and two in the center of the length.
The cloth has a lovely hand and it seems hand woven from hand spun cotton yarns. The color, too, is noteworthy as the indigo has faded to a nice, warm pale grey-bluish-greenish-blue.
A very attractive length of old katazome cotton and one that shows a good amount of patches and lovely and fairly unusual pattern.
