A Length of Okinawan Kasuri: Indigo and Complex Striping

This beautiful kasuri cotton length shows tones of indigo dye, and as this is traditional weaving from the Ryukyu Islands or Okinawa, we should assume the dye is of local origin, called Ryukyu-ai.

The pattern is subtle and is based on vertically-oriented channels: the traditional Okinawan kasuri motifs within these channels are weft based.

Pay special attention to the variegated patterns within what appear to be simple vertical stripes--and note the selvedges which still possess the feeling of hand weaving.

This length seems to have come from a kimono shaped garment and its cotton is beautifully, tightly hand woven. 

Some overall fading and patina from wear, but in good, used condition.
