A Length of Miura Shibori: Pictorial Passages

$75.00 USD

early twentieth century
55" x 13", 139.5 cm x 33 cm

This length of old shibori dyed cotton was taken from a yukata or an unlined, casual kimono. It is very interesting to look at and it shows an unusual overall design. The cloth seems to woven from hand spun yarns.

The base is of large-scale, blue-on-blue miura shibori that evokes some kind of water dappling.

Onto this base we see wonderful, stylized, resist dyed images of clouds (in the middle, left and top, right of the length), what seems to be a plum blossom or perhaps a cherry blossom letting go of some petals at top, and two diamond shapes at the bottom.

The length is so varied and seemingly disjointed in its designs that it certainly grabs one's attention and interest. It is unusual. One small tear to the middle, right, selvedge area, shown in a detail photo here.

This is a good quality length of old shibori that would be wonderful to add to your collection.
