A Length of Miura Shibori: Indigo Dyed Cotton
mid twentieth century
39" x 12 3/4", 99 cm x 32.5 cm
This is a length of miura shibori which shows a dense field of clustered blue tie-dyed dappling.
This length of shibori dyed cotton was taken from a yukata, an unlined summer kimono, and because this cloth was once part of a garment, it shows ingrained creases from wear.
From a distance the cloth appears to have a slightly mottled, medium-toned color, but upon closer inspection the fine pattern of spots can be seen--and do note at the bottom of this piece there is a reddish blur. This is the maker's mark and indicates that this piece was taken from the end piece of a bolt of indigo dyed cotton miura shibori.
A lovely length of traditional shibori dyed cotton.
