A Length of Mame Shibori: Bean-like Pattern

$75.00 USD

early to mid twentieth century
40" x 12 3/4", 101.5 cm x 32.5 cm

This is a length of indigo dyed gauzy or lightweight cotton shibori which has been dyed in the absolutely charming pattern called mame, or bean, shibori.

Mame shibori is created by hand using a kind of "primitive" folding and dyeing mechanism, the result being this length of white cotton that is studded by even rows of small bean-sized stains of indigo dye.

Just lovely.  Note the one, small notch of loss to the right hand side of the length which can be seen on the accompanying detail photo. The indigo on the length length is slightly faded from age and wear.

**And have a look at this short video here to see how mame shibori is made.

A wonderful, hand dyed cotton length of shibori.
