A Length of Lightweight Silk Kasuri: Well Cribs
$40.00 USD
ca. late nineteenth century
47" x 13 1/4", 119.5 cm x 33.5 cm
This elegant and handsome length of hand woven silk is lightweight and is a simple flatweave.
It shows a field of vertical,warp-oriented variants on the traditional well crib motif; these well cribs are flanked by deeply colored red and white narrow, vertically set striations. The ground color is a dark blue-purple.
This piece of silk was most likely once part of a kimono, or very likely an under-kimono, and overall it is in very good condition.
Just lovely.
