A Length of Layered Boro Cloth: Spare Kasuri and Indigo Dyed Cotton

$95.00 USD

early twentieth century
72" x 13 1/4", 183 cm x 33.5 cm

This is a good-sized length of old boro cloth that is composed of two layers that have been sashiko stitched together.

The indigo base cloth that is shown here is that of a sparely designed kasuri cotton, beautiful in its simplicity.

The surface shows patches and a hole or two, and one or two of the patches have given way from the base and are slightly unattached from it.

The overall look of this boro panel is quiet and complex.

It is a beautiful piece with good age and, as said above, is made of two layers which gives this length some weight and body.

A quiet beauty.
