A Length of Kasuri Cotton: "Meisen"
$40.00 USD
mid twentieth century
57" x 13 1/2", 145 cm x 34.25 cm
This is a length of fairly light weight kasuri dyed cotton that has the look of meisen silk, meisen being a kind of machine-aided, jazzily patterned kasuri silk that was "town wear" in Japan until the 1950s.
This is a very handsome pattern and a beautiful coloration: the kasuri aspect being uneven adds character to the oversized design of intersecting lines.
As this piece was taken from a kimono it shows ingrained creases from its former life.
Lovely.
