A Length of Indigo Dyed Shibori: Roundels and Miura Shibori
$40.00 USD
early to mid twentieth century
54 1/4" x 13", 137.5 cm x 33 cm
This is a length of indigo dyed cotton shibori that was taken from a yukata or an unlined, casual kimono usually worn in summer.
The pattern is an all over field of miura shibori which is punctuated by large-scale roundels inside of which is a stylized flower. The background relies on a tied technique while the images utilized a stitched technique.
There is a subtle change in indigo tone within the length and there are ingrained creased from the life this length had in service of a yukata.
A charming, complex yet bold pattern.
