A Length of Indigo Dyed Kasuri Cotton: Beautifully Minimal Pattern
early twentieth century
76 1/4" x 13 1/2", 193.5 cm x 34.25 cm
This is a hand woven length of indigo dyed kasuri cotton that shows a regular geometric pattern of the traditional well cover design which is embellished by four white squares, one off each of the corners of the well cover. The length is hand stitched from two pieces of the same cloth.
The design alternates from side to side and when viewed from a distance there seems to be a network of a large diamond pattern which is created be the space between the resisted designs.
The cotton is beautifully hand woven, more than likely of hand spun cotton yarns, and the selvedges of the length are erratic, attesting to it being hand woven.
There are some ingrained creases to the length which only enhance its hand woven or textural effect and otherwise the length is in good, used condition.
This is an especially good quality length of rustic kasuri weaving.
