A Length of Indigo Dyed Cotton Shibori: Large Miura and Rustic Plum Blossoms

$85.00 USD

early to mid twentieth century
55" x 12", 140 cm x 30.5 cm

This is a length of indigo dyed shibori cotton which shows a curious, medallion-like motif that is at first not discernible.

Looking closely at it it seems to be a rustically rendered plum blossom set inside a ring or a circle. These strangely rendered images are set against a dappled background of large-scale miura shibori.

The base color of the cloth is pale blue and the dappling is dark blue. There is a faint stain to the piece, hardly noticeable in real life which is shown on the detail photo that accompanies this posting.

The cotton is of a good weight and there seems to be nice age to this length. Please note very faint discoloration on the top, right hand seams, the effect is attempted to be shown on the detail photos here.

This length is rich in tones of indigo and bears an unusual design.
