A Length of Heavily Woven Kasuri Cotton: Traditional Hemp Leaf Pattern
early to mid twentieth century
65 1/4" x 14 1/2", 165.5 cm x 37 cm
This length of indigo dyed cotton kasuri is thickly woven and is stiff to the touch. The weft yarns are quite thick and sturdy which is the cause of the heaviness of this cotton while the warp yarns are much finer.
The pattern is a recognizable one which is the traditional hemp leaf or asanoha pattern. The pattern shows some of the hemp leaves highlighted or enclosed by a light circle which adds an interesting variety to this often-seen design.
In seemingly unused condition this length of cloth is generous in size and begs to be used as a home accessory or to be displayed on its own artistic merits.
