A Length of Handwoven Striped Cloth: Futon Cover
$40.00 USD
ca. late nineteenth century
65" x 13 1/4", 165 cm x 33.5 cm
This length of hand woven, indigo dyed cotton shows an all over patina from decade of use; it is slightly faded, which often brings out the beauty in indigo dyed cottons, as is the case here.
The design is of three, wide pale-toned stripes, each stripe being composed of several sub-stripes. The stripes are set against a deep, indigo blue ground.
Taken from a futon cover, this length is typical of the every day cloth used in old Japan.
Lovely.
