A Length of Handsome Zanshi-ori: Woven from Leftover Threads
ca. early to mid twentieth century
38" x 12 3/4", 96.5 cm x 32.5 cm
At Sri we love zanshi-ori or cloth woven from leftover yarns--and it seems that many of you are fans as well.
This is a very handsome length of blue-on-white checked cotton cloth--and you can see the leftover yarns in the center of the intersecting wide blocks of blue. The hazy, jagged blue-and-white passages were woven using remnants of kasuri or ikat yarns which were resisted before they were dyed.
There is one lone patch of white cotton to this short length of hand loomed cloth; otherwise the cloth is in good condition, with maybe a faint, small stain or two.
A marvelous-looking piece of zanshi-ori.
