A Length of Hand Woven Striped Cotton: Two Pieces
$55.00 USD
late nineteenth century
63" x 13", 160 cm x 33 cm
This length of rather dimmed-color cotton is hand woven of hand spun yarns and the dyes used to produce it are all natural.
The design of the stripes is straightforward and the length offered here--hand stitched from two distinct pieces--was taken from a futon cover.
This kind of striped cloth--simple and bold--was a classic type of Japanese home weaving as stripes and plaids were staple types of cloth used everyday and all over Japan, and by all classes.
