A Length of Hand Woven Plaid Boro: Semamori Stitch

$40.00 USD

ca. late nineteenth century
34" x 13", 86.5 cm x 33 cm

The ito aji or thread taste of this length of indigo dyed cotton cloth is really delicious: this boro piece is hand woven from hand spun cotton yarn.

Alternating dark and medium blue checks look wonderful as they are separated by narrow, white cotton lines.

Five patches grace this piece of boro, as does a curious bit of stitching, most likely a semamori, or a talismanic stitch intended to stave off harm.

A very handsome length of good, old Japanese hand woven cotton.
