A Length of Hand Woven Indigo Dyed Cotton Cloth: Plaid and Kasuri
late nineteenth, early twentieth century
59 1/2" x 12", 151cm x 30.5 cm
This is a length of hand woven cotton that is made from hand spun cotton yarn. The texture of this piece--hand spun yarns enhance this--is as beautiful as its design.
The cloth shows a large plaid pattern interspersed with channels of pale indigo kasuri. The kasuri design is made up of the traditional design motif called yabane or arrow feather.
The color tone of this length is more beautiful, softer and a bit warmer than the camera was able to capture, there is more depth to the color than what is seen on these accompanying photos.
This panel was taken from a futon cover and it is in good, used condition.
It is a beauty.
