A Length of Hand Woven Cotton: Plaid

$70.00 USD

late nineteenth century
64" x 13 3/4", 162.5 cm x 35 cm

This is a length of beautifully simple hand woven cotton cloth that shows a checkered plaid in two colors, a warm, dull brown and a deep indigo blue. The color combination as it is presented in this weaving is rich and understated.

The hand spun yarns add warmth to this already soulful length and, in so many cases with Japanese art and design, the most pared down designs can be the most alluring. Certainly this length caters to this notion.

Note one very small tear to the middle, right selvedge area, shown here as a detail photograph.

It is wonderful to look at and embodies the wondrous soulfulness that make Japanese folk textiles so alluring.
