A Length of Green Colored Hand Spun Cotton: Gauzy and Patched
$50.00 USD
early twentieth century
69 1/2" x 12 1/2", 176.5 cm x 31.5 cm
This is a length of softly woven, hand spun cotton that shows a velvety, deep green tone. The color is more than likely the result of over dyeing indigo with a yellow dyestuff.
The cloth was taken from a kaya or a mosquito netting. The cotton yarns are softly woven and the cloth itself is drapey, clingy--almost gauzy--and gentle to the touch.
From the standpoint of color this is a beautiful length and in considering texture this is a winner. One small patch studs the surface of the cloth at the top.
Simply beautiful.
