A Length of Good, Old Cotton Plaid: Wonderful Repairs

$75.00 USD

late nineteenth, early twentieth century
68" x 13", 173 cm x 33 cm

If you are interested in every day cotton textiles from Japan's rural past this length is one that should catch your eye.

The hand spun, hand woven cotton is just beautiful in the hand and to the eye. The warm blue and the subtle plaid of kasuri yarns adds a slight yet dazzling design note to the length.

In contrast to this warm blue ground is the bold yet faded large scale plaid cotton patch, also hand woven from hand spun yarns and which is a beautiful foil to the base.

Note, too, the lovely mending patch at the bottom of the cloth, shown in detail here, that is stitched into an unintentional letter "R."

Beautiful and subtle, this length embodies beautiful qualities of old Japanese hand loomed cotton cloth.
