A Length of Faded Indigo Cotton: Traces of Everyday Life
$75.00 USD
early twentieth century
84" x 13 1/4", 213.5 cm x 33.5 cm
This is a simple length of hand woven cotton that was dyed in indigo.
What is amazing about it is the light fading.
Looking carefully you will see evidence of what was once placed on this length. The evidence is a casual arrangement of many dark circles of indigo, so there was once a collection of some form of container which was place along the length of this indigo cotton.
In a way it is a reverse cyanotype.
This is a beautiful example of the magic of happenstance and this creative play of light and dark--wholly unintended--is a joy to behold.
