A Length of Eye Dazzling Kasuri Cotton: Shimmering Pattern
$90.00 USD
mid twentieth century
54" x 15", 137 cm x 38 cm
This is a length of tightly woven cotton that was dyed in the kasuri method--yarns were tied or resisted before dyeing so when they were woven an intentional pattern appears.
In this case we see a large-scale "checkerboard" of shimmering tones of blue and grey-white. This checkerboard is positioned within columns of narrow, pale-toned vertical lines which add visual structure to the design.
This beautiful length of kasuri is a bit wider than most traditional Japanese textiles and it shows a marvelously realized design; very pleasing.
