A Length of Exuberantly Patched Boro Length: Futon Cover Section

$85.00 USD

early to mid twentieth century
72" x 13 1/4", 183 cm x 33.5 cm

This is a length of hand woven striped cotton that is hand stitched from two pieces of the same cloth.

Stitched to the surface of the cloth are fifteen individual patches, a combination of kasuri, plain colored, plaid and striped cottons.

The brown and grey kasuri cotton is the most vibrant of them and it shows the interlocking circle or shippo tsunagi motif. The one, wedge-shaped dark patch provides additional visual interest to this length, which is full of visual surprises and chaos.

This is a wonderful length of old boro cotton that was taken from a futon cover. It is visually exciting and has good age--and there is great appeal in both these aspects.

Recommended.
