This is a length of lightweight, indigo dyed plaid cotton that is composed of two pieces and shows many, many patches scattered over the length.
What makes this length so attractive is not just the way the patches are placed but also their shape and position: the triangular patch and the off-kilter rectangular one have a lot to do with the visual appeal of this patched and mended length of old cotton.
This piece was taken from a futon cover and its generous length and its wonderful, unintended artfulness make for an intriguing thing to appreciate.
