A Length of Cotton and Asa Kaya: Gorgeously Patched
ca.early to mid twentieth century
81" x 13'< 206 cm x 33 cm
This handsome piece of cloth is quite long and is quite interesting.
It is a length of kaya or mosquito netting: the warp yarns are a pale indigo cotton and the weft yarns are hemp. The resulting color is a very warm, pale blue/green that shows a good texture and slightly loose weave.
There is one patch which is hand stitched to the kaya, and the stitches which adhere the patch to the base cloth are eccentric and almost fanciful.
Do note the splash of light fading to the bottom, right hand side of the length, and a slight bit of fadingto the right hand, top side.
Still, this is a really lovely piece of old, hand woven hemp and cotton cloth with good length, color and structure.
