This richly colored and beautifully designed, hand woven length of plaid cotton is heavily starched and has a papery feeling and texture to it due to the amount of starch applied to the length.
The colors are deep and velvety. As can be seen, both in the warp and the weft areas there are kasuri yarns which add a flickering aspect to the design.
Most likely taken from a futon cover, this length of cotton is a beautifully designed and executed plaid from old Japan.
