A Length of Complex Boro: Kasuri and Large Checks
ca. early twentieth century
56" x 13", 142.25 cm x 33 cm
This is a length of indigo dyed kasuri cotton that shows large windowpane checks which enclose alternating white kasuri checks inside.
The staggering of the white kasuri is really lovely as is the application of 5 patches, each of which is hand stitched to the base cloth.
The base cloth, which is of hand woven cotton, shows a good, all over spray of small holes, each tiny, which can be easily noticed in the accompanying detail photos. As well, there is very, very slight pale soiling to areas of the surface which is extremely hard to detect.
A really interesting and handsome length of hand woven kasuri boro cloth from old Japan.
