A Length of Boro Kasuri Cotton: Still-Attached Patches
early twentieth century
66" x 13 1/4", 167.5 cm x 33.5 cm
This is an interesting length of indigo dyed cotton boro cloth, both for the beautiful, kasuri dyed base cloth but also for the patches that still cling to one of the selvedge edges of the length.
The cotton is rustic and seems to be of hand spun--certainly hand woven--cotton. A large patch of the base cloth is applied to the surface of the length as are 14 individual patches, three of which jut out from the edge of the cloth.
Obviously taken from a futon cover, this is a richly colored and beautifully designed length of kasuri cotton and one with a good deal of visual interest.
Just lovely.
