A Length of Boro Indigo Plaid Cotton: Tabbed Futon Cover
early twentieth century
72" x 11 1/2", 183 cm x 29 cm
This is length of plaid, indigo dyed cotton that has been patched along its length, the disjointed plaid of the patches in contrast to the base cloth adds visual interest to this piece.
There is, however, a fascinating detail on this boro length which is the four home made ties that are attached to its proper, left hand side.
These ties are left over from this panel's inclusion as part of a futon cover and having this remnant of its past use in a Japanese home is really charming.
Please note the fairly obvious, faint stain shown in photos here.
An attractive boro panel of very good length and one with some interesting details.
