A Length of Boro Cotton: Beautifully Faded Reverse Side

$80.00 USD

late nineteenth century
39" x 13 1/2", 99 cm x 34 cm

This length of patched and layered hand loomed cotton is beautiful on both its sides: perhaps it is the unpatched side that is more interesting than the patched side.

The unpatched side shows beautifully faded hand spun, hand woven cotton that is made as a wide stripe of now faded indigo and pink. On this side we see the piercings of the needle and thread used to attach the patches to the other side; this subtlety is beautiful.

On the patched side all the cloth is hand woven and the pieces all seem to be contemporary to each other which is a plus when judging an old boro textile.

This is a handsome one to be sure and its reversibility has added charm.
