A Length of Blurred Indigo Dyed Cotton Kasuri: Devolving Image

$85.00 USD

early twentieth century
54 1/2" x 13 1/2", 138.5 cm x 34 cm

This length of kasuri dyed indigo cotton is of good weight and shows some surface wear, including a small hole which is pictured on the detail photos here.

Its design is interesting because the way it was woven has blurred the pattern so it is not recognizable: this is a lovely quality of this cloth which might qualify as zanshi ori or cloth woven from leftover yarns.

It seems the pattern wants to be something botanical--maybe pines, maybe flowers--but it is unclear. The abstraction of the pattern is intriguing and attractive.

There is some fading to the length but overall it is in good, used condition.

A strange and appealing length of old kasuri cotton, probably from Sa'nin, this is one to note.
