A Length of Blue-on-Blue Miura Shibori: Dark Tones

$65.00 USD

late nineteenth, early twentieth century
29 1/2" x 12 1/2", 75 cm x 32 cm

This is a beautiful length of old indigo dyed shibori cloth: the cotton is hand woven from from hand spun yarns and has a marvelous, hand made texture.

It is of good weight.

The shibori is a richly toned blue-on-blue field done in the miura technique. Miura shibori looks like a dappled field of uniform-sized splotches.

This length was taken from a garment and its very faint light-fading is consistent with this prior history of being a jacket or an under kimono.

A not-so-often seen length of indigo dyed cotton shibori of such good age this piece is wonderful for its expertly done pattern and for its wonderful old hand woven cotton.

Please note a small area of loss to the bottom, left corner, a small hole near it--and please note that on the top of the length there is a row of very small perforations that runs from selvedge to selvedge: these are very difficult to discern but they are there.

Recommended.
