A Length of Beautifully Woven Striped Cotton: Futon Cover
ca. late nineteenth century
67 1/2" x 13 1/2", 171.5 cm x 34 cm
Beautifully, lightly worn and faded, this length of indigo dyed cotton shows a lovely, complex, hand woven stripe. The two stripe areas are wide and are comprised of several, warp-based, striped components. The soft colors are within a tight tonal range and produce a subtle, yet graphic effect.
On this length there are two hand stitched patches; this length of cotton was once part of a futon cover.
