A Length of Arashi Shibori: Double Process

$55.00 USD

early twentieth century
27" x 13", 68.5 cm x 33 cm

This is a lovely piece of indigo dyed cotton shibori: the technique used to produce this complex pattern is a from of arashi shibori, arashi meaning storm, so the allusion of the pattern imprinted into this cloth is that of driving rain.

Many variations of arashi are based on strong diagonals.

The cotton seems not to be hand loomed, however the indigo is likely botanical, if not wholly, then in part.

Nicely patterned, with some charming "irregularities" to the arashi shibori this is a very good length of hand made Arimatsu shibori cotton in good condition.
