This is a layered, patched and sashiko stitched small mat of old, hand woven, striped cotton.

Its size and proportions indicate that this was probably once a diaper however it could have been a cleaning cloth or some kind of small, functional mat.

This cloth offers subtle details which are interesting for those who care about mending--and the complex simplicity of the arrangement of stitches, hard-to-see mends and a prominent patch is beautiful. Please note one hard-to-see stain on the reverse side of this cloth.
