A Large Zokin: Two Woven Stripes

$25.00 USD

ca. mid twentieth century
13" x 18 3/4", 33 cm x 47.5 cm

This is a large and thickly layered zokin, or dustcloth, which has been assembled from two types of old, discarded, hand loomed striped cotton cloth.

The cotton used to create this zokin is clearly re-used as is evident from the surface abrasion and patina to the striped cloth.  The entire zokin is covered in vertical rows of white, sashiko stitches.

The subtle play of stripe-on-stripe is just wonderful, as is the quite large size of this zokin, which could easily be used as a placemat.

Wonderful.
