A Large Indigo Dyed Kasuri Futon Cover: Patterns

$195.00 USD

early to mid twentieth century
72" x 32", 183 cm x 81.5 cm

This is a large-sized boro cloth whose base cloth is hand stitched from several pieces of deeply indigo dyed kasuri cotton, probably a deconstructed kimono.

The splash pattern of the base cloth is dazzling to the eye as it is highly contrasting in dark and white. The hand stitched patches to the busy surface of the cloth are a wonderful foil to the base and enliven it by their presence.

The overall shape is irregular as can be seen in the accompanying detail photos and the general impression is one of complex visual delight.
