A Large Boro Zokin: Hemp Stitching

$25.00 USD

ca. early to mid twentieth century
12 3/4" x 14 1/4", 32.5 cm x 36 cm

This is a really wonderful, hand stitched zokin, a traditional dustrag that is created from scraps of old cloth in what may be arguably one of the last phases of repurposing of old cloth.

This one is of good size--please see the dimensions listed above.  It is sewn from a blue and dark striped cotton cloth, the dark cloth being folded over on two of the four edges, giving the blue side a kind of edge detail.

Horizontal rows of haphazard hemp thread sashiko stitching keep this layered rag quilted in place.

Just charming.
