A Large Boro Zokin #3: Traditional Dustrag
early to mid twentieth century
15" x 14", 38 cm x 35.5 cm
Zokin are traditional Japanese dustrags which are almost always made from layered and sashiko stitched scraps of cloth.
This is a large-sized and very handsome boro zokin which is pieced-together recycled cotton cloth which has been beautifully sashiko stitched.
The shaping of the zokin is eccentrical; the design of the cotton pieces is perfectly arbitrary; this is a very good example of an old zokin. Just wonderful.
